Terms & Conditions

Last updated: [EFFECTIVE DATE]

The short version

  • Vita helps you understand blood-test results you already have. We do not sell lab tests, and we are not a healthcare provider.
  • Vita is wellness software. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace your doctor, and nothing it shows you is medical advice.
  • If you think you are having a medical emergency, call your local emergency number. Vita is not for emergencies and nobody is monitoring your results.
  • Your risk scores come from fixed, versioned rules — the same inputs always give the same scores; no AI decides them. AI only helps read your documents and phrase explanations, and because it can misread things, you can check and correct every parsed value against your original report.
  • You must be 18 or older to use Vita.
  • You own your health data. We take only the narrow license we need to run the service for you. Our Privacy Policy explains exactly what we collect and where it goes.
  • Vita is free during the invite-only beta. There are no payments in the product, and we will email you well before anything ever costs money.
  • This is early software. Features may change, break, or be withdrawn while we build.
  • You can leave anytime. Until self-serve account deletion ships, email hello@getvita.health and we will delete your account for you.
  • If we ever have a dispute, we talk first, and the courts stay open to you — no forced arbitration, and no clause making you cover our legal costs.

1.What Vita is — and what it is not

In short: Vita interprets lab results you already have — we do not sell tests — and it is wellness software, not medical care.

These terms are a real agreement between you and [VITA HEALTH, INC.] ("we", "us", "our"), of [REGISTERED ADDRESS] — the company behind the Vita app ("Vita"). We have tried to write them the way we would want to read them: plainly, honestly, and without burying anything important. By creating an account or using Vita, you agree to them.

Vita is a consumer health app, available on the web at getvita.health and on iOS. You upload blood-test reports you already have — from your annual physical, an employer health screen, a clinic visit — and Vita reads them, computes health risk scores across four domains (heart, metabolic, kidney, and gout), explains what the numbers mean, and suggests lifestyle actions you can track over time. It also includes a journal, weekly check-ins, and an AI assistant called Vita Intelligence.

Just as important is what Vita is not:

  • We do not sell, arrange, or order lab tests. Vita works with results you already have.
  • Vita is not a medical device, and it has not been reviewed or cleared by any medical regulator.
  • We are not a hospital, clinic, laboratory, pharmacy, or any other kind of regulated healthcare provider — so the special health-records laws that govern those institutions do not apply to us. That does not mean your data is unprotected: the commitments in our Privacy Policy are part of this contract, and we hold ourselves to them because we said we would.

2.Vita does not provide medical advice

In short: Vita gives you information, not diagnosis or treatment — and it never replaces your doctor.

This is the most important section in this document, so we will be direct. There are three layers to it:

First, nothing in Vita is a diagnosis, treatment, or medical opinion. Your risk scores, biomarker explanations, trend graphs, and recommended actions are informational. They are computed from the data you provide using a deterministic, versioned rules engine — the same inputs always produce the same outputs — and they are meant to help you understand your results and have better conversations with a clinician. They are not a determination that you have, or do not have, any condition.

Second, using Vita does not create a doctor–patient relationship. Nobody at Vita is your physician. No clinician reviews your uploads, your scores, or your chats. There is no professional on the other end taking responsibility for your care.

Third — and please take this seriously — never delay, ignore, or change medical care because of anything Vita shows you. That includes starting, stopping, or adjusting any medication. If Vita says a marker looks fine and your doctor says otherwise, listen to your doctor. Our interpretation is built only from the data you give us: your uploaded reports, your body profile, your questionnaire answers, your manual logs and check-ins, and (if you connect it) your Apple Health data. We do not see your full medical history, your medications, your symptoms, or your clinical context. A clinician who does see those things will always be in a better position to advise you.

3.Emergencies

In short: Vita is not for emergencies, and nobody monitors your results in real time.

If you think you are having a medical emergency — chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of a stroke, or anything else that frightens you — call your local emergency number or go to the nearest hospital immediately. Do not open Vita, do not ask Vita Intelligence, and do not wait for a score to update.

Vita is not designed, staffed, or monitored for urgent situations. No person or system at Vita watches your results as they come in, and nothing in the app will alert anyone — including us — if a value is dangerous.

4.Eligibility and your account

In short: You must be 18, use your own information, and keep your account to yourself.

To use Vita you must be at least 18 years old. Vita is not intended for anyone younger, and we will close accounts we discover belong to minors.

When you create an account, give us accurate information and keep it up to date — your scores are only as good as what you tell us. Keep your sign-in credentials safe: you are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us at hello@getvita.health if you think someone else has access to it.

Vita is currently an invite-only beta. Access comes through our waitlist, and we send invitations in small batches, only as fast as we can support new users well — so we choose when, and sometimes whether, to invite. One account per person, please: the product is built around a single person's health data, and shared or duplicate accounts will produce results that are wrong for everyone involved.

5.Your lab uploads and parsing accuracy

In short: AI-assisted parsing can misread values, so review your results — Vita shows you the original document side-by-side so you can check and correct anything.

When you upload a lab report, we use AI-assisted extraction to read the document and pull out your biomarker values, units, and reference ranges. To do this, we send your document to our contracted AI provider for parsing. The provider does not use data we send through its service to train its models under the terms we use it on, and our Privacy Policy describes this flow in detail.

Parsing works well most of the time, but it is not perfect. PDFs vary wildly in layout and quality, and the parser can occasionally misread a value, a unit, or a decimal point.

Because of that, Vita includes a review feature we encourage you to use: you can open any report and see the parsed results next to your original document, side by side, and correct any value that was read wrong. We keep the original value in the edit history so there is always a trail. Your risk scores are recomputed from the corrected data.

Two things follow from this:

  • Your scores depend on input accuracy. If a parsed value is wrong and uncorrected, or if you enter inaccurate profile or questionnaire data, the scores built on top of it will be wrong too. Reviewing your parsed results is the single best thing you can do to make Vita useful.
  • Only upload reports that are yours. Vita scores every report against your own body profile, so uploading anyone else's results — even with their permission — will produce wrong results for both of you. And uploading someone's health records without their permission is a serious violation of their privacy and of these terms.

6.Vita Intelligence (the AI assistant)

In short: Vita Intelligence is software that can be wrong — treat surprising answers as questions for your doctor, not conclusions.

Vita Intelligence is an AI assistant that can discuss your results, your scores, and your lifestyle data in plain language. It is genuinely useful, and it is also just software. It is not a human clinician, it has no medical judgment, and — like every AI system — it can be wrong, incomplete, or overconfident while sounding perfectly reasonable.

So here is how to use it well: treat its answers as a starting point for understanding, not an endpoint for decisions. If it tells you something surprising or concerning, write it down and ask your doctor about it. A surprising AI answer is a good question; it is never a conclusion.

Vita Intelligence only has access to your own Vita data — your labs, scores, profile, actions, and connected health metrics. It cannot see other users' data, and it cannot see medical information you have not given Vita. The assistant is powered by a third-party AI provider under contract with us: your messages, and the health context the assistant looks up to answer them, are processed by that provider. The provider does not use this data to train its models under the terms we use it on. On iOS, you can instead choose an on-device AI mode — in that case, the processing happens on your phone and is not sent to Vita or our provider. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Talk to a real clinician instead of the assistant whenever you have worrying symptoms, questions about medications (starting, stopping, dosing, or interactions), or anything that feels urgent. Those are exactly the situations where software should step aside.

7.Apple Health

In short: Connecting Apple Health is optional, you control it from iOS Settings, and we never use your health data for advertising or marketing.

On iOS, you can optionally connect Apple Health. If you do, Vita reads the health metrics and workouts you approve — things like heart rate, steps, sleep, weight, blood pressure, workout duration, workout distance, and available workout-associated signals — and uses them to enrich your profile and show your history. Metrics are stored as daily and hourly aggregates; workouts are stored as session summaries plus bounded display-quality signals. Full-resolution workout samples stay in Apple Health. The full list is in our Privacy Policy.

Workout route cloud sync is a separate choice and is off by default. If you turn it on, Vita stores a simplified copy of outdoor routes plus route-derived elevation and GPS-derived speed so their maps and charts can appear across your devices. On the web, OpenFreeMap provides the cartography through its CDN. Map requests reveal your IP address and the geographic map area requested, but Vita does not upload your route line or signal series to OpenFreeMap.

Vita writes back to Apple Health in exactly one case: when you manually log your weight or height in Vita, we can record it in Apple Health so your records stay consistent. That is the only write access we use.

You can disconnect Apple Health at any time in your iPhone's Settings under Privacy & Security → Health, and Vita will stop new syncing immediately. Data already synced to Vita remains until you delete it. Vita settings let you remove route maps and route-derived signals while keeping workout summaries and non-route signals, or delete all synced workout history without deleting anything from Apple Health.

One commitment, stated plainly because it matters: we will never use your Apple Health data — or any of your health data — for advertising, marketing, or data mining, and we will never share it with third parties except to provide health-management features you have asked for, with your permission. This is both Apple's rule for health apps and our own.

8.Your content and your data

In short: You own your health data; we take only the license we need to run Vita for you.

Everything you put into Vita — your lab reports, profile, questionnaire answers, journal entries, logs, and chats — is yours. These terms do not transfer ownership of any of it to us.

What you grant us is a narrow, practical license: permission to store, process, transmit, and display your content as needed to operate the service for you — parsing your reports, computing your scores, syncing between your devices, powering the assistant, and the other things you would expect the app to do. This license exists only to run Vita for you; it ends for content you delete, subject to the retention details in our Privacy Policy.

How we collect, use, protect, share, and delete your data — including our use of vendors and our approach to de-identified data (data with everything that could identify you removed) — is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is part of your agreement with us. It is written in the same plain style as this document, and we mean for you to actually read it.

9.Acceptable use

In short: Use Vita for your own health, honestly, and leave everyone else's data and decisions alone.

We keep this list short because most of it is common decency:

  • Do not upload anyone else's lab reports — Vita only works with your own (see section 5).
  • Do not scrape, probe, disrupt, or reverse engineer the service, or try to access data that is not yours.
  • Do not use Vita to feed false or fabricated data into Apple Health.
  • Do not use Vita's output — scores, risk levels, or anything else — to make insurance, employment, credit, or similar decisions about another person. Vita is a personal wellness tool, not an assessment instrument, and using it that way could seriously harm someone.

If you break these rules, we may suspend or close your account as described in section 12.

10.Fees

In short: Vita is free during the beta, and nothing will ever charge you without notice.

Vita is free during the beta. There are no payments, no subscriptions, and no billing anywhere in the product — we have not built any of it.

If we introduce paid features in the future, we will tell you by email in advance, clearly, before anything changes. Nothing will ever auto-convert into a charge. You will always get to decide, with full information, whether a paid feature is worth it to you.

11.A beta service

In short: Vita is early software — features may change, break, or disappear while we build.

Vita is a beta. That word is doing real work in this sentence, so here is what it means in practice:

  • Features may change significantly, be redesigned, or be withdrawn as we learn what works.
  • Things will occasionally break. We fix them as fast as we can, but we make no promise of uptime or uninterrupted availability.
  • Scoring logic evolves. Our rules engine is versioned, so when a score shifts after an engine update, that reflects a change in our methodology — not a change in your health.

We care a great deal about data continuity — your uploaded reports and history are the whole point of the product — and we work hard to preserve them through every change. But this is early software, and you should keep your original lab documents. (You can download any original report you have uploaded from within the app at any time.)

12.Ending the relationship

In short: You can leave anytime; we can close accounts for breach, usually with notice and a chance to fix things first.

You can leave whenever you want. Until our self-serve account-deletion tool ships, email hello@getvita.health and we will delete your account and data for you — free, within 30 days, no questions required. In the meantime, you can already delete individual items in-app: lab reports (which also removes the stored file and scrubs AI chat content derived from that report), AI chat threads, journal entries, synced workout routes, and all synced workout history.

We can end things too, by suspending or terminating your account if you materially breach these terms — for example, by uploading someone else's records without permission or attacking the service. Where it is practical and safe to do so, we will give you notice and a chance to fix the problem first. For serious violations, we may act immediately.

We may also wind down the beta or the service itself; if we ever do, we will give you advance notice and a reasonable window to download your original documents from the app and to request a copy of your data by emailing hello@getvita.health.

What happens to your data after your account closes — including timelines and what may persist in backups or as de-identified data — is described in our Privacy Policy.

13.Our promises and their limits

In short: We built Vita carefully, but it is provided as-is — and nothing here removes rights the law gives you.

We are proud of Vita and we work hard to make it accurate, reliable, and safe. But we cannot honestly promise that it will be error-free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose, and we do not. Vita is provided "as is" and "as available" — meaning we promise our best effort, not a guaranteed outcome — without warranties beyond what we expressly state in these terms. In particular, we do not warrant that parsed values will always be correct, that scores capture everything relevant to your health, or that the service will always be up when you need it.

One thing we want to be unmistakable: nothing in these terms removes or limits rights that the law gives you. Some places give consumers protections that cannot be waived by any contract. Wherever you live, those protections stand, and these terms operate within them — never over them.

14.Liability

In short: Our financial responsibility is capped, except where the law says it cannot be.

Vita is a free beta product, and our liability reflects that. Two limits, both applying only as far as the law allows:

First, a cap. The most we can owe you for claims connected to Vita is [FIXED FALLBACK AMOUNT] — or, once paid features exist, whatever you actually paid us in the twelve months before the problem, if that is more. Vita is free today, so the fixed amount is the one that matters.

Second, indirect harms. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages (damages meant to punish rather than compensate) — things like lost profits or lost data — arising from your use of the service.

These limits do not apply where the law does not permit them to. Nothing in this section limits our liability for our own fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for anything else the law says cannot be excluded.

Notably absent from these terms: an indemnification clause. Many consumer apps make you promise to cover their legal costs. We think that is an unfair thing to ask of an individual using a health app, so we do not ask it.

15.Disputes

In short: Talk to us first; if that fails, the courts are open to you — we deliberately chose no forced arbitration.

If something goes wrong, please start by emailing hello@getvita.health with "Dispute" in the subject line and a description of the problem. We will respond within 30 days, and we will make a genuine effort to fix it. Most problems are misunderstandings or bugs, and most are fixable.

If we cannot resolve it together within 60 days, either of us may bring the dispute before the courts of [GOVERNING LAW / VENUE].

We want to be explicit about a choice we made: these terms contain no forced arbitration clause and no class-action waiver. Many companies use those to keep consumers out of court. We decided not to. If we ever fail you badly enough that you need a judge, you deserve access to one.

16.Governing law

In short: [GOVERNING LAW] law governs these terms — but you keep any stronger protections the law where you live gives you.

These terms, and any dispute about them or about Vita, are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW] (and only those laws, even if you use Vita from somewhere else). If the law where you live gives you consumer protections that apply no matter what a contract says, you keep them.

17.Changes to these terms

In short: We version these terms, email you before material changes, and you can always say no and leave.

We will update these terms as Vita evolves. Every version is dated at the top, and you can email hello@getvita.health for any prior version.

For material changes — anything that meaningfully affects your rights, your data, or what you pay — we will email you in advance, before the change takes effect. Minor clarifications and fixes may take effect when posted.

If you do not agree with a change, you have the right to reject it by closing your account before the change takes effect (email hello@getvita.health and we will handle it). Continuing to use Vita after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.

18.Contact and miscellany

In short: One email address for everything, plus the standard legal housekeeping in plain words.

Contact. For support, privacy requests, legal notices, and everything else: hello@getvita.health. One address, read by real people.

Assignment. You cannot transfer your account or this agreement to someone else — Vita is built around one person's health data. We may assign this agreement as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the business; if that ever happens, your data remains protected by commitments at least as strong as the ones in these terms and our Privacy Policy, and we will tell you about it.

Severability. If a court finds any part of these terms unenforceable, that part is trimmed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest continues to apply.

Entire agreement. These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and [VITA HEALTH, INC.] about Vita. They replace any earlier discussions or representations. If we do not enforce a provision at some point, that is patience, not a waiver — we can still enforce it later.

Thank you for reading this far. If anything here is unclear, we would genuinely like to hear about it at hello@getvita.health.
